Opening Meeting of “Implementation of the Strategy Document and National Action Plan on Irregular Migration with a Focus on Mixed Migration Flows” Project was Organized in Ankara

top1.The opening meeting of the “Implementation of the Strategy Document and National Action Plan on Irregular Migration with a Focus on Mixed Migration Flows” project that aims to expand the capacity of Turkish stakeholders to better understand and respond to mixed migration flows, to implement the Strategy Document and National Action Plan on Irregular Migration, and to address the protection needs of vulnerable migrants was organized on 29 September in Ankara.

The main beneficiaries of the project that is being implemented by IOM are the Coast Guard Command and the Directorate General of Migration Management. The project is funded by the UK Embassy and will be implemented until July 2016.

Under the project framework, it is planned to deliver capacity building trainings on mixed migration, international migration law, international human rights law, risk assessment, migrant smuggling and human trafficking  to  personnel of the Coast Guard Command and border and migration officials of other relevant governmental counterparts; to conduct needs assessment at selected border areas to identify needs of the relevant national stakeholders, to have modelling for development of the screening, referral and assistance mechanism for vulnerable migrants; to organize series of multi-agency consultation meetings and  multi-stakeholder nationwide workshop with the participation of all relevant stakeholders; to provide emergency kits to the migrants rescued at sea through a pilot initiative and to organize pilot implementation on expert mobility.
