United Nations staff in Turkey visited Anıtkabir on UN Day

anitkabir2018Representatives and staff of the United Nations in Turkey visited Anıtkabir on 24 October for commemorating UN’s 73rd anniversary.

The United Nations representatives and staff led by UN Resident Coordinator Irena Vojáčková-Sollorano first laid a wreath at Atatürk’s mausoleum.

Following, Resident Coordinator Irena Vojáčková-Sollorano signed the visitor’s book at Anıtkabir. She started her message in Turkish addressing Atatürk as the Great Leader (Ulu Önder Atatürk) and reminded a quote from the founder of Republic of Turkey “We must never say “What does it matter to me if some part of the world is ailing?” If there is such an illness, we must concern ourselves with it as though we were having that illness.”

“This presaged the fundamental tenets of the United Nations, and your words echo in what Turkey strives to achieve at home and in the world” Sollorano said ending her message.
