International Women’s Day was marked by several activities by UN Women with refugee and host community women in Gaziantep

Film Screening and “Talk” Event for Gaziantep University Students

UN Women Turkey has organized a film screening and a mini panel (talk) in partnership with Gaziantep University with the participation of more than 200 students on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Two award winning short movies portraying women, “Small Bullets” and “Back to Soil” were screened in the congress hall of Faculty of Law. Talk session is moderated by UN Women with Turkish and Syrian students on gender equality and women’s rights. 

Baloons Flied for Women Solidarity and Peace 

400 Turkish, Syrian, Afghani and Iraqi women from the SADA Women Empowerment and Solidarity Center commemorated the International Women’s Day in Gaziantep. Women took the stage to express their opinions on gender issues and enjoyed the quiz on gender equality. While women were taking part in the event, their children played in the kindergarten organized at another hall. Women and their children flew balloons as a symbol of women’s solidarity and peace.

All two events were organized under the “Strengthening the Resilience of Syrian Women and Girls and Host Communities in Turkey Project” lead by Un Women with the financial assistance of the European Union and Government of Japan.

12th Cappadocia Women Gathering

UN Women Turkey has attended an event together with 2000 Turkish, Syrian, Afghani and Iraqi women from all over the Turkey on the occasion of the 12th Cappadocia Women Gathering organized by SGDD-ASAM on 9th of March. From Gaziantep 200 women and staff from the SADA Women Empowerment and Solidarity Center, funded by the EU and Government of Japan, have also attended the gathering to mark the International Women’s Day. Participants have visited touristical places of the area and commemorated the International Women’s Day.
